Clare dips below par

Scotland's Clare Queen birdied the final hole for a one under par 71 and was just four shots behind surprise leader, Julie Greciet, after the opening round of the Tenerife Ladies' Open at Costa Adeje.

Queen, who was sixth in last month's Ladies' Scottish Open, is the leading Scot at No. 37 on the European Tour Order of merit and she produced some solid golf in the tough, windy conditions with just one bogey at the 15th to set alongside birdies at the third and the long 18th.

Kathryn Imrie had four birdies in a 73 but Lynn Kenny marked her 28th birthday with a disappointing 77. Rookie Jenna Wilson, the fourth Scot in the field, was first out and struggled to a 79.

Greciet, a 21-year-old French rookie, has only made two cuts this year, but she shot 67 and led by one from England's Trish Johnson and Maria Verchenova, who is the only Russian player on the Tour.
