Mum Matthew to make last-gasp bid for Solheim Cup selection
Scottish No.1 Catriona Matthew is ready to return to competition at next week’s Evian Masters in France as she makes a last dash bid for a place in Europe’s Solheim Cup team.
Catriona had her second child – Sophie – in May and has been preparing for her comeback at Archerfield Links, close to her home in North Berwick.
“Sophie is beginning to sleep a little better and it’s been good weather for practising recently,” she said. “I’m looking forward to Evian and then the Ricoh Women’s British Open is at Lytham the following week.”
Catriona started the year by winning the HSBC Brasil Cup – and her experience could be vital when Europe take on the US in the Solheim in Illinois at the end of next month.
She has already played in four Solheims – and scored the winning point at Barseback in Sweden in 2003.
Captain Alison Nicholas will name her Solheim team immediately after end of play at the Women’s British Open on August 2.
