Catriona Matthew to take on the best of 2009 in World Championships
Scot Catriona Matthew claims one of the many rewards for her Ricoh Women’s British Open victory when she lines up in an elite field of 20 at the Samsung Women’s World Championships over the famed Torrey Pines South course in San Diego, California.
The only British player in the field, Matthew joins fellow major winners Anna Nordqvist, Brittany Lincicome and Eun-Hee Ji chasing a purse of £625,00 with £155,000 going to the winner.
“I never really expected to be playing in this tournament this year,” said Matthew, who has only played in a handful of tournaments following the birth of second daughter, Sophie, in May.
“But it’s great to be involved in these end of season smaller field events. I’ve juggled my end of season programme a little, and I’m also going to go to South Korea next month.”
