Can Yates out-drive Tiger?

On Sunday, 38 year-old Simon Yates may have finished 13 strokes behind winner Darren Clarke at the BMW Asian Open ,but you could argue that the Glaswegian expat is still very much in the driving seat.

For Yates, currently ranked 20th on the Asian Tour and whose career earnings since turning pro in 1989 are in excess of $US1.6million, combines his high flying career on the fairways with a talent for motor-racing.

For the past two seasons, the Hua Hin based Scot has been competing on the Thai motor-racing circuit. He finished second in his first year.

Consequently, the golfer, known as "the wee man" to expats on the Asian Tour, is rapidly making a name for himself in the high octane sport.

Yates, whom since 1995 has won two tournaments (including the 2004 SK Telecom Masters in Korea) and finished runner-up on 13 occasions on the Asian Tour, is reportedly considering buying a Porsche Carrera to race.

Recalling the first time he won behind the wheel, Yates said: "It was the best feeling I have ever had whilst competing."
