Booth and Dear get Walker Cup nod

Wallace Booth and Gavin Dear have both been named in the Great Britain and Ireland team that will attempt to win the Walker Cup back off the USA next month.

Booth and Dear are the only two Scots in Colin Dalgleish’s ten-man team for the biennial match, which takes place at Merion in Pennsylvania.

Scottish amateur championship runner-up Paul O’Hara is the surprise omission from the squad and he will have to settle for the position as first reserve.

World No.12 Dear, who will turn professional after the match, said: “The Walker Cup will be a great way to finish my time as an amateur.

“I’ve just about done it all over the past year or so and I feel the time is right to make the move into the pro game.

“Myself and Wallace both thought Paul would make it so I’m sure he will be disappointed.”
