Big week for rookie Scots

Krystle Caithness, Vikki Laing, Pamela Feggans and Michele Thomson face a mixture of excitement and nerves over the next four days as they make their rookie debuts on the Ladies’ European Tour in the Deutsche Bank Swiss Open at Golf Gerre Losonne.

Laing and Feggans have moved from the US Futures Tour in America, while Caithness and Thomson step up from the amateur ranks. Last year, they both played for Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup at St Andrews.

“I’ve spent the last few weeks practising in Florida and now I’m raring to get going,” said 26-year-old Feggans, from Patna in Ayrshire. “I’ve played all my professional golf in America, so it’s nice to be nearer home.”

Laing, a record four time Scottish Girls’ Champion, played on the LPGA Tour for the first two seasons after turning professional in 2003, and she won on the Futures Tour in 2007.

“I think the time is right for me to try Europe,” said the Musselburgh golfer. “The circuit has improved and there is a lot more money than the Futures Tour and  more tournaments. “

Clare Queen, now in her fourth professional season, and Lynn Kenny are the other two Scots in a strong field for the £450,000 tournament that is one of the richest on the circuit.
