A handful of success

Five Scots – Vikki Laing, Pamela Feggans, Kylie Walker, Krystle Caithness and Michele Thomson – all survived the pre-qualifying test at the Ladies’ European Tour School at La Manga in Spain.

With 68 players going through to the final School starting over the South course tomorrow, Laing, a winner on the US Futures Tour in 2007, was the best of the Scots, finishing in tenth place on three over par after a final round 72 over the South course.

Feggans made the biggest improvement over the final day with a five under par 68 that secured a tie for 24th place on eight over par, while Kylie Walker had a great four under par 67 over the tricky North course for ten over and a share of 32nd spot.

Caithness and Thomson both played in last year’s Curtis Cup and they also held their nerve. Caithness had a 75 over the South course to tie for 34th on 11 over par and Thomson, the Scottish Amateur Champion, had a 71 at the North for 16 over and joint 51st.

Emily Ogilvy (77) and Karyn Burns (79) both failed to make the mark on d ay when Dutch amateur Christel Boeljon headed the list thanks to a final round 68 and an impressive 12 under par total.

The successful five will now join fellow-Scots Lynn Kenny and Jenna Wilson in the 90 strong field chasing 30 full cards from the 72-hole final qualifying. The field will be cut to the top 60 and ties after three rounds.
