Smith urges Rangers to take their chance

Rangers manager Walter Smith has challenged his side to keep the faith in the edgy title run-in.

Steven Davis scored the only goal in a highly-charged Old Firm derby at Ibrox, and it gave Rangers pole position in the league, as they bid to end Celtic's three-year SPL dominance.

"We are delighted with our present position and hopefully we can take advantage of it," said Smith.

"Last year we were in the same position but we let it slip because of the fixture pile-up.

"We don't have that problem this year, we have the ability to take the championships now.

"We are on a good run of form and I've been really pleased with how some of the boys have been playing."

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan insisted he was proud of his team, despite surrendering top spot.

And he claimed all was not lost, with games against Dundee United, Hibernian and Hearts still to come.

"We believe something can still happen and if it's still there on the last day of the season then bring it on," he said.

"But we still need to win the next two games to be within a chance with one game to go, but I was very proud of them."
