Walter Smith admits Rangers were given a lesson by Arsenal
Walter Smith insists Rangers’ Emirates Cup defeat to Arsenal has given them a preview of what to expect in the Champions League this season.
Smith’s men were brushed aside against the Champions League semi-finalists as 17-year-old Jack Wilshere netted twice and Eduardo also scored in a 3-0 victory.
And Smith – who led the Gers to their first SPL title in four years last season – believes his troops were given a lesson in north London.
“Having missed out on Europe last season, it was a sharp reminder to our boys of what we come up against at the top level of European football,” he said.
“It is not very often we come up against a team which plays in a manner which Arsene Wenger has Arsenal playing.
“They were excellent in terms of possession and speed. We had a very long afternoon in the dugout.”
