Scotland close in on under-19 European Championship elite round
Scotland under-19’s took another huge step towards the elite round of the European Championships by hammering Armenia 6-1.
But their rout almost never took place after a row between the local council in Feldkirchen and the Austrian FA.
Just 45 minutes before kick-off council bosses arrived at the ground and barricaded both goalmouths and the centre-circle in a cash row.
The wranglle was eventually cleared-up and it didn’t knock Billy Stark’s men, who had beaten Romania 3-0 on Saturday, out of their stride with Celtic’s James Forest grabbing two of their goals.
Newcastle’s Brad Inman was on the scoresheet again with Celtic’s James Forrest, Motherwell’s Robert McHugh, Danny Wilson of Rangers and St Mirren’s Sean Burns completing the win.
Manager Billy Stark said: “It was a bit of an unusual build-up as we weren’t allowed to warm up on the pitch – we had to go and use an adjacent pitch.
“It appears the local council did not want the game to go ahead as they were worried about damage to it and there was a bit of a stand-off until right before kick-off.
“We then had some great spells although at 3-1 it was a bit worrying until we settled down again.”
