SPL round-up - Rangers see red while Hibs hammer Hamilton
Rangers finished with ten men for the second game in succession as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 0-0 draw away at Kilmarnock.
Pedro Mendes received his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards in the first half, becoming the third Rangers player to be sent off in the SPL this season.
However, Kilmarnock failed to make their extra man count and had a player dismissed themselves late on when Manuel Pascali picked up a second booking for tugging Steve Davis’ shirt.
With Celtic playing Hearts tomorrow, Dundee United had the chance to join Rangers at the head of the table, but they blew this opportunity by suffering a 1-0 reverse at home to Motherwell.
Ross Forbes got the game’s only goal from the penalty spot on 66 minutes after Jim O’Brien had been fouled in the box by Sean Dillon.
Meanwhile, Anthony Stokes fired a double as Hibernian ended a two-game losing streak with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St Johnstone.
Stokes grabbed his first goal for the club with a smart turn and finish on 21 minutes - Hibernian’s first goal in three games.
Derek Riordan made amends for his missed penalty at Hamilton in midweek by doubling the advantage before the break with Stokes netting a deflected free-kick 17 minutes from time.
Charlie Mulgrew scored a free-kick with two minutes left to give Aberdeen a 1-0 victory over St Mirren, while the visitors also had Lee Mair sent off for arguing about the award of the decision.
Elsewhere, Falkirk remain at the foot of the table despite drawing 0-0 away at Hamilton.
