Novo belter not enough to save Rangers from Euro thrashing
Rangers remain winless in the Champions League after they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Sevilla.
The SPL champions capitulated after the half-time interval, conceding four goals in the space of 24 minutes before Nacho Novo grabbed a late consolation.
But the result could have been so different for the Gers had they been awarded a clear first-half penalty when Steven Naismith was hacked down by Abdoulay Konko but Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson waved away the protests.
And Konko rubbed salt into the Rangers wounds when he slipped his marked to nod home the first goal of the night five minutes into the second half.
Adriano then curled home a second shortly after the hour mark to put Rangers to bed while Luis Fabiano headed another one past Allan McGregor in the 72nd minute.
Ex-Tottenham and West Ham striker Fredi Kanoute slotted home a fourth two minutes later while Novo's superb finish in the 88th minute gave an emptying Ibrox something to cheer.
