McGeady out for Rapid Vienna Europa League clash
Celtic boss Tony Mowbray must do without the services of Aiden McGeady when his side face Rapid Vienna in the Europa League at Celtic Park.
The Glasgow-outfit, who lost their opening group tie against Hapoel Tel-Aviv, face the Austrian side for the first time since their controversial Cup Winners’ Cup game in 1984, which was replayed after a Rapid player falsely claimed he had been bit by a bottle thrown by a supporter.
McGeady will not be risked ahead of the Old Firm derby against Rangers on Sunday and Mowbray will choose between the in-form Paddy McCourt, Niall McGinn or Barry Robson to fill the midfield berth at Parkhead.
Mowbray said: “Let's see how Aiden is. But we won't risk him tomorrow if there is any doubt.
“Rapid are a very good counter-attacking side and are not too unlike Dinamo Moscow.
“They can be very dangerous. I watched their game at Villa Park again last week and while Villa won the game 2-1, Rapid created so many chances late on. They could have scored three or four.”
