Hughes keen to retain star pair

New Hibernian boss John Hughes has urged star duo Steven Fletcher and Rob Jones to remain at Easter Road.

English centre back Jones and 22-year-old striker Fletcher, who has scored 52 goals in 185 appearances for Hibs, have attracted admiring glances from clubs south of the border.

But despite both players indicating their desire to move on, Hughes believes the duo can continue to improve by staying in Edinburgh.

He said: "Steven's under contract so what he needs to do is come back here, knuckle down and go and enjoy himself and score goals.

"I'll sit down with big Rob as well. I know he's possibly wanting to go back down south for family commitments.

"I think Steven will want to work with me. I might be wrong. And why can't I inspire Rob and get him to sign another year's contract?

"I want my players to be ambitious. I think I've got a bunch of players at Hibs who want to go and play in the English Premier League."
