SFL 2009 / 2010 season kicks off with flourish of red cards
Derek Holmes’ last gasp equaliser for Queen of the South denied newly-promoted Raith a perfect start to life in Division One, as both sides finished with ten men in a 1-1 draw.
Doonhamers midfielder Steve Tosh saw red after 37 minutes for a second bookable offence and Raith made them pay on the stroke of half-time as Allan Walker found the net.
A straight red for Raith defender Mark Campbell in the 55th minute made it ten-a-side and allowed Queen of the South back into the game and in the dying seconds Holmes popped up right on cue to grab a share of the points.
Meanwhile Airdrie United had an afternoon to forget at Ross County, losing 2-1 and new boys Ayr flew out of the traps at home to Partick as striker Mark Roberts netted after just five minutes.
But they could not hold onto the lead and Partick hit back on 21 minutes when player-coach Simon Donnelly calmly levelled as the match finished 1-1.
Elsewhere, Dundee secured a 1-0 victory at home to Morton thanks to front man Sean Higgins and Lee Cox’s last minute winner gave Inverness, relegated from the SPL last season, a dramatic 1-0 win away to Dunfermline.
