Hearts decimated by classy Zagreb in Europa qualifier
Hearts’ European dream looks over as they were thumped 4-0 in their qualifying round first leg against Dinamo Zagreb.
The SPL side fell behind early on in their Europa League tie as Mario Mandzukic headed home the opener after just five minutes in the Maksimir Stadium.
And the match was all but over as a contest shortly before half time when Dimitrios Papadopoulos tapped home as Csaba Laszlo’s men struggled.
The Croatian champions – who were knocked of Champions League qualifying by Red Bell Salzburg – added a third in the 56th minute through Ivica Vrdoljak.
And former Liverpool man Igor Biscan wrapped up the victory on the hour mark as he headed home from close range – meaning Hearts face an uphill task to qualify from the return leg at Tynecastle next week.
