Motherwell coach Gannon hits out at referee penalty decision
Austrian referee Fritz Stuchlik felt the wrath of new Motherwell boss Jim Gannon after Well slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Flamurtari in the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round.
Gannon was furious after Stuchlik ruled out John Sutton's successful penalty in the 56th minute after one of the home players had encroached into the box.
Sutton, who had earlier hit the bar, then had the retake saved by Shpetim Mocka before the Albanians grabbed the only goal through Ermir Strati to darken Gannon's mood.
"The referee needs to have a good look at the rules, none of our players had encroached," Gannon said.
"It was hard to take for the players and we all felt the change in the atmosphere after the decision, it seemed to harden their players and their focus.
"I was pleased with the physical effort of our players but I think we could have played better."
