Fletcher ready for Wales friendly

Scotland captain Darren Fletcher has given boss George Burley a boost ahead of the friendly with Wales after he passed a fitness test.

The 24-year-old has been struggling with an on-going ankle injury, which is likely to result in surgery at some point, and missed training on Wednesday – raising fears that he would miss the trip to Cardiff.

But the Manchester United midfielder returned to training on Thursday and assistant coach Paul Hegarty is thrilled to have him back after he missed the friendly defeat to Japan last month.

“Everyone knows what a good player Darren is – he plays for one of the best clubs in the world and has come on leaps and bounds over the last two or three seasons,” said Hegarty.

“What he has done for his club is exceptional and he’s also been excellent for us as well in the last few years.”
