Fletcher: Burley is the man for the job

Skipper Darren Fletcher insists George Burley should keep the Scotland job – regardless of the result in tonight’s must-win World Cup qualifier against Holland.

Scotland need to topple the Dutch to have any chance of progressing out of Group Nine and winning qualification for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

Burley’s contract runs until 2012 but has a break clause which SFA President George Peat – who has not held back in his criticism of the campaign – has insisted can be used ahead of the European Championship qualifying campaign.

But Fletcher has urged Peat and co. to show restrain and give Burley the chance to lead Scotland to the 2012 tournament whatever happens against the Dutch

"I think he deserves the chance to see it through to the next campaign," said Fletcher. "If it doesn't go to plan on Wednesday night, we want the manager to stay.

"No-one wants to see a manager get sacked. As players, that is not part of our ethos at all. We are all playing for him."
