SFA set to appeal McFadden booking
SFA chief executive Gordon Smith admitted he will explore every angle possible in a bid to get James McFadden’s controversial yellow card against Macedonia overturned.
Despite netting in the 2-0 win at Hampden Park McFadden’s performance was overshadowed after a first-half bust up saw him mistaken for Scott Brown and booked.
Brown kicked the ball off Igor Mitreski at a contentious bounce-ball to earn a corner only for German referee Wolfgang Stark to think it was McFadden.
The Birmingham talisman will miss Scotland’s final World Cup qualifier with Holland as a result but it won’t be without the want of trying insists Smith.
“James is claiming mistaken identity but I am not sure what happens because you can only appeal certain decisions,” said Smith.
“We saw it last season when Darren Fletcher missed out on the Champions League final but it might be possible to appeal this one and we will be doing all we can to find out.
“None of us understood why he had been booked – we weren’t sure what happen and neither did James.”
