Early goal sinks Scots

Scotland women’s hopes of qualifying for the European Championships were dashed last night after falling to a one goal defeat at McDiarmid Park, Perth.

The home side needed 3 points to still stand a chance of escaping the group, but an eighth minute goal from Daria Apanashchenko meant they faced an uphill struggle for the remaining eighty plus minutes.

Julie Fleeting’s team dominated for long spells of the match, but failed to capitalise on any of the chances they created.

Ukraine’s win sends them into joint first place in the group, level with Denmark.  Scotland lag eight points behind, having played two more matches.

Shelley Kerr, Suzanne Grant and Meggan Sneddon were all presented with awards for reaching their 50th caps on the night.
