SPL clubs exercise their dominace in CIS Cup
Reigning champions Celtic started the defence of the Co-operative Insurance Cup in fine style as they thrashed Falkirk 4-0.
Scott McDonald opened the scoring after 28 minutes when he turned home Paul Caddis’ cross before doubling the lead in the 53rd minute.
Paddy McCourt made it three shortly after the hour mark before Chris Killen wrapped up the victory ten minutes later.
Steven Naismith and Nacho Novo both netted as last year’s finalists Rangers sneaked past Queen of the South and into the quarter finals.
Naismith took just 16 minutes to unlock the Doonhamers defence before Novo sealed their progression 11 minutes from time. Robert Harris grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.
Hearts also booked their place in the last eight as they came from behind to beat Dunfermline 2-1 at Tynecastle.
