Burley left with 'keeper conundrum after naming Scotland squad
Boss George Burley insists the goalkeeper shirt is still up for grabs as Scotland travel to Oslo for a World Cup qualifier with Norway next week.
First-choice number one Craig Gordon is sidelined through injury and Burley has called up Rangers keeper Neil Alexander, Aberdeen’s Jamie Langfield and Cardiff stopper David Marshall.
Alexander and Marshall are likely to be ahead of Langfield in the pecking order but manager Burley is remaining coy about the identity of Gordon’s replacement.
“We've got three goalkeepers who are desperate to play,” said Burley. “Craig is a top international keeper and we tried to give it as long as possible but he’s not going to be available.
“It’s a great chance for one of the other lads to stake their claim for the jersey.”
Meanwhile, Chris Iwelumo, James Morrison and Barry Robson are also missing through injury, while Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor have been exiled from the international set-up.
Scotland squad: Neil Alexander (Rangers), Jamie Langfield (Aberdeen), David Marshall (Cardiff City), Darren Barr (Falkirk), Christophe Berra (Wolves), Gary Caldwell (Celtic), Steven Caldwell (Burnley), Callum Davidson (Preston), Alan Hutton (Tottenham), Jamie McAllister (Bristol City), Steven Whittaker (Rangers), Graham Alexander (Burnley), Scott Brown (Celtic), Kris Commons (Derby County); Darren Fletcher (Man Utd), Paul Hartley (Bristol City), Shaun Maloney (Celtic), James McFadden (Birmingham), David Clarkson (Bristol City), Steven Fletcher (Burnley), Ross McCormack (Cardiff City), Kenny Miller (Rangers), Steven Naismith (Rangers)
