Burley annoyed at SPL split

Scotland manager George Burley has revealed his frustration at the SPL split after his plans for a B international against Northern Ireland were thrown into disarray.

Burley's 17-man squad for the match on May 6 had to be drastically altered when the SPL announced Hearts, Hibs, Abderdeen and Dundee United would play the following day.

And Burley said: "I think it's a case of people looking at it because I don't think the split is ideal as far as teams knowing their fixtures for that season.

"Once the split comes, who knows who's playing where and what date it's going to be?

"Initially we were going to play on the 13th but that was the week of an SPL midweek fixture so we changed it for the week before.

"Unfortunately we have four clubs where maybe seven or eight players would have been involved in this squad."
