Boyd and Papac win it for Rangers

Sasa Papac struck seven minutes from time as Rangers came from behind to win 2-1 away at St Johnstone and return to the top of the table.

Looking for their first home victory of the campaign, Derek McInnes’ team got off to an inspired start when Trinidad striker Collin Samuel raced through to open the scoring on 17 minutes.

However, Kris Boyd levelled five minutes before the break for the reigning champions and Bosnian defender Papac sealed the points when he curled past Alan Main.

Previous table-toppers Celtic are now two points off the pace after being held to a goalless home draw by a dogged Motherwell.

Scott McDonald had numerous efforts for the Glasgow side, with the biggest guilt-edge chance coming late on when he headed over from two yards.

Hibernian were reliant on a late Abdessalam Benjelloun penalty to remain third as they defeated Kilmarnock 1-0 while Hamilton drew 1-1 with Dundee United.

Meanwhile, Craig Dargo was on target for the second game in succession as St Mirren came from behind to win 3-1 away at bottom-of-the-table Falkirk and Aberdeen drew 1-1 with Hearts.

In the SFL, Ross County took the Scottish Division One table by the scruff of the neck as Garry Wood netted the only goal in their 1-0 win over rock-bottom Airdrie at New Broomfield.

Wood swooped in the 78th minute to seal the points for the visitors while Dundee moved up to second after they beat Morton by the same score line.

Partick Thistle made up for their blip at Dundee last week by beating lowly Ayr United 2-0 at Firhill to move into third and Raith Rovers beat Queen of the South 1-0.

Elsewhere, a mid-table meeting between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic ended in a 1-1 draw and in Scottish Division Two table-toppers Stirling came from behind to beat struggling Stenhousemuir 2-1.

Kevin Motion set the ball rolling for Stenhousemuir in the 40th minute but David O’Brien equalised and Mike Grehan completed the turn-a-round to maintain Stirling’s five-point advantage at the top.

Second-placed Brechin kept up the pressure after Charlie King’s late winner in a 3-2 triumph against East Fife while Cowdenbeath made it five wins-in-a-row with a 1-0 victory at Arbroath.

Dave Ross’ double secured Peterhead a comfortable 3-1 victory over ten-man Clyde and Dumbarton climbed off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 win at Alloa.

And in Scottish Division Three East Stirling remain top after a 3-1 win at Elgin.
