Celtic 'keeper Artur Boruc apologises to Celtic faithful
Keeper Artur Boruc has apologised to the club’s fans after Celtic surrendered the lead to lose 2-1 in their opening Europa League clash in Israel.
Leading by a Georgios Samaras first-half strike Tony Mowbray’s side crumbled in the second half as goals from Nemanja Vucicevic and Maaran Lala handed Hapoel Tel-Aviv the points in the opening group C match.
And Boruc, who made a string of good saves before Hapoel struck the winner, insists the result simply wasn’t good enough.
Boruc said: "I made some good saves, but it wasn't enough. Celtic shouldn't be beaten in Israel.
"But it's only the first game. There is a long way to go. We can still go through. There's a big chance for us and we'll see what happens in the next few games.
"I feel sorry for the supporters. They have travelled to the end of the world to support the team and watch the game.
"I do feel sorry for them because the performance was bad. The second half was really, really bad. It's hard to say what went wrong straight after the game. We didn't keep a clean sheet and have lost."
