Wigan the favourites to claim signature of hotshot McCarthy
Wigan look set to win the race to sign highly-rated Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy despite late interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Wigan, as well as newly-promoted Wolves, have had a £2m offer accepted by Hamilton and has been offered a guarantee of regular first-team football by manager Roberto Martinez.
As well as late interest from Tottenham, Celtic and Burnley have also been linked with McCarthy but have yet to make any concrete offers.
And Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has ruled out a move for the 18-year-old.
"I would not have thought we'll be making an offer with the numbers that have been bandied around," said Mowbray.
But it does appear the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international will be on the move, with Accies boss Billy Reid resigned to losing McCarthy.
"It's an understatement to say that losing a player like James is a blow," he said.
