Scotland's brave show stutters late on as Japan strike twice
A Christophe Berra own goal and a late Keisuke Honda strike handed Japan a comfortable 2-0 win over a second string Scotland outfit in Yokohama.
Missing ten first team players George Burley’s troops were always going to be up against it but looked good for 80 minutes before Berra turned Yuichi Komano’s cross into his own net.
Scotland’s misery was compiled minutes later with Komano again the provider allowing Honda to sweep up Takayuki Morimoto’s blocked turn and shot and fire home.
Japan dominated proceedings throughout in front of a home crowd of 60,000 with Scotland battling hard but failing to record a single shot on target.
Scotland’s best chance fell to Steven Fletcher however after latching onto Don Cowie’s through ball keeper Eiji Kawashima somehow stopped him in his tracks with his leg.
