George Burley retained as Scotland coach for Euro 2012 qualifying campaign
The SFA has confirmed under-fire Scotland manager George Burley will continue in charge of the international team despite failing to qualify for the World Cup finals next summer.
Scotland were handed one of the easiest qualifying groups for the tournament but last week's 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands meant Burley's men would miss out on the main event in South Africa.
And with Scotland having failed to qualify for every major international competition since the 1998 World Cup in France, there were rumours abound Burley would be asked to step down.
But after showdown talks with the 53-year old on Monday, the SFA have given their backing to the ex-Hearts manager for the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
"We met with George on Monday and he was as disappointed as anyone with last weekend's result," said SFA chief executive Gordon Smith.
"He's a man who cares deeply for his country and we believe he can get us back to the stage where we're competing at major international tournaments again."
