McGeady given his marching orders as Celtic see off Hibs
Another diving controversy overshadowed Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday.
Georgios Samaras’ header in the 41st minute was enough to maintain the Bhoys’ 100 per cent record in the league this season.
But Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady will hog the headlines after receiving a second yellow card in the 63rd minute for an apparent dive following a challenge from Hibernian’s Paul Hanlon.
Celtic manager Tony Mowbray was quick to criticise the decision which he felt was a result of Arsenal striker Eduardo’s punishment for diving in the Bhoys’ midweek Champions League defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
“If it hadn’t been for everything that happened during the week, I’m not sure the referee would have judged it a sending off,” said Mowbray.
“It’s a lack of understanding of the game - it happened right in front of me and I the referee made the wrong decision there.”
A Martin Hardie free-kick deep into injury time rescued a point for St Johnstone against Hearts.
The Edinburgh side looked set for their first win of the season after Jose Goncalves and David Ouba had cancelled out Murray Davidson’s first half header.
But the Saints surged forward late on and substitute Hardie picked himself up after being fouled by David Witteveen to curl a 20-yard free kick into the top corner.
