Vennegoor of Hesselink strikes again to send Celtic four points clear
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink grabbed his fourth goal in four games as Celtic edge four points clear in the Scottish Premier League title race, courtesy of their victory over Aberdeen.
The Dutchman stabbed home Shunsuke Nakamura?s dipping corner on the stroke of half-time to put the league leaders ahead and Scott Brown made it safe with a low drive on 55 minutes.
In the early afternoon kick-off St Mirren ended Motherwell?s hopes of breaking into the top six before the league splits, as Steven Thomson and Andy Dorman downed the Well at Fir Park.
Stephen Hughes struck a post for the hosts but Thomson tapped in after a calamitous mistake from Mark Reynolds on 77 minutes, before Dorman?s 25-yard strike sealed the win at the death.
Motherwell trailed sixth-placed Hibernian by a point going into the today?s match with their rivals entertaining Rangers tomorrow, but this defeat means they will join the bottom tier when the league divides.
Brian Kerr?s stunning volley rescued an invaluable point for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the fight against relegation, hammering home just two minutes from time to deny Hamilton the points.
James Gibson had put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes when he converted a well-worked free-kick, and the points looked to be heading back to New Douglas Park, until Kerr rifled home to keep his side ahead of rock-bottom Falkirk by four points.
Falkirk also picked up a point from their clash with third-place Hearts, as Bairns stopper Dani Mallo produced a string of fine saves to deny both David Obua and Andrew Driver.
And Dundee United and Kilmarnock also battled out a goalless draw as Paul Dixon saw red late on as the United defender was given his marching orders for a professional foul on Daniele Invincibile.
