George Burley given assurances that his job is still safe
Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith is convinced George Burley is still the right man for the job – despite their 4-0 humbling in Norway.
Scotland will have to win their remaining two games at home to Macedonia and Netherlands in September if they are to make it to the World Cup play-offs after their defeat in Oslo.
And despite sitting in third place in the qualification table behind Macedonia and group winners Netherlands - Smith is sure Burley can inspire his troops to make it to South Africa.
"It's too early to see if there’s going to be a change in management,” he said. "We have two games and we are still in a position where we can qualify.
"It's not going to take a miracle to get us to the play-offs and you wouldn't even say it was improbable.
“It's a difficult situation but it is still there for us to qualify and we have to be positive."
