GB Olympic football team may still happen, insists BOA chief
British Olympic Association chief executive Andy Hunt has refused to give up hope that Scottish and Welsh footballers could take part in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Fears over their independence and the precedent a British team may set, remain the key concern for the Scottish and Welsh FAs.
Hunt's predecessor, Simon Clegg, grew exasperated with the attitudes at work within football's national governing bodies, although the English FA were a quick and early support of a British team at the Games.
"It would be shocking if we can't sort it out, he told members from the Sports Journalists' Association in London.
"It's a really important issue for the whole country.
"It would be an absolute travesty if the London Games did not feature British football representation. We understand the views of the four home football nations.
"The next step is for the four home associations to get together and resolve their issues and I refuse to accept that they cannot reach a unified position."
But even getting the home associations around one table to discuss the matter has proved difficult, with letters inviting officials to talks previously ignored.
"A letter has gone out from FIFA looking for the home nations to become joined up in their response before the end of May," added Hunt.
