Justine Lambert takes home under-12 title at British Youth Fencing Championships
Edinburgh 11-year-old Justine Lambert has signalled she is a star in the making by winning the under-12 title in the epee event at the British Youth Fencing Championships in Stoke-On-Trent.
With victory in the 35-strong field, Justine was the only Scottish winner on the opening weekend of the Championships and she will be aiming for a double when she joins the line-up for the foil event this coming weekend in Wolverhampton.
Justine has been a member of Edinburgh fencing Club for three years and is coached by Paul Neil-McLachan in the epee and by Edinburgh’s former world-class star, Donny McKenzie, in the foil.
“There are 46 entries for the foil and we’re not sure how Justine will do this weekend,” said her mother, Julie. “But she should be a strong contender.”
A pupil at Cargilfield School in Barnton, Justine trains a couple of times every week at the club based at St Thomas of Aquin’s High School in Chalmers Street.
“She’s very keen and loves the sport,” Julie continued. “The Edinburgh Club has a great tradition and she gets great support from the coaches and the other fencers.”
