Galashan sisters aim to make a splash at World Series this weekend
Helen and Carol Galashan will head to this weekend's FINA World Diving Series in Sheffield full of confidence - and their European Championship bronze medallists insist they've got every right to.
The 21-year identical twins only took up 10m synchronised diving two-and-a-half years ago, having brought an end to their gymnastics careers that saw them both represent Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Being identical twins has its advantages, and with their seemingly telepathic synchronicity, the Galashans have taken the diving world by storm and were crowned British champions in February in Sheffield before their European bronze earlier this month.
And the duo, who both study sport and exercise science at Leeds Metropolitan University, will return to Sheffield intent on making their World Series bow in style.
"We can't wait to get there and experience the World Series atmosphere for the first time,? said Carol, who was a reserve for the Great Britain Olympic gymnastics team in 2004 in Athens.
"We're going to be taking on the best in the world so it'll be a great chance to test ourselves. We've come so far in such a short space of time and this is another step for us.
"The pool in Sheffield is like a second home for us. We?ve been based there in the past and it'll be great to have some home support.
"We don't have any expectations really but we just want to keep progressing. This is the chance for us to stake a claim for the World Championships in Rome this summer."
Also competing in Sheffield will be teenage Olympian Tom Daley, who will team up for the first time with new partner Max Brick, following his split with Beijing partner Blake Aldridge.
