Chris Hoy lost for words after third gold in Beijing
Chris Hoy has spoken of his feelings after becoming the first Briton in a century to win three gold medals at one Olympic Games.
The track cyclist from Edinburgh, who today beat fellow Brit Jason Kenny in the final of the men’s sprint at the Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing, said words were beyond him, such was his delight.
“I cannot tell you how it feels - it is amazing," Hoy told BBC Sport.
"When you cross the line, all the pressure that has built up, the expectation and the self doubt evaporates just like that.
"When you want something that much it is an amazing feeling when you achieve it.
Hoy burst into tears when celebrating with his team and family after the race.
"And that's why the emotions come out at the end. You bottle it for so long that it just erupts at the end."
He also paid tribute to young Jason Kenny, who at only 20 gave Hoy one of his toughest ever races.
"Kenny has come through the ranks and he is the man who will win at London 2012. Beating him was really tough - it was probably the hardest race of my life."
