Top Scots honoured at Commonwealth Awards Dinner

Chris Hoy was the star of the show for the fifth time in six years at the Commonwealth Games Scotland Annual Awards Dinner in Glasgow on Saturday night.

The triple gold medal winning hero of the Beijing Olympics collected the Scottish Sportsperson of the Year prize ahead of fellow Beijing medallists Katherine Grainger and David Florence, as well as tennis star Andy Murray and gold medal winning Paralympian Aileen McGlynn.

World Junior champion triathlete Kirsty McWilliam was the winner of the junior award, while other rising stars were recognised also, including table tennis player Craig Howieson, trampolinist Cara Jamieson, fencer Calum O’Donnell and wrestler Calum Steel.

Commonwealth Youth Games double-gold medallist Douglas Scott was also honoured as the Clydesdale Bank Athlete of the Games, while shooter Kay Copeland was the runner up.
