Mountain Biking - Thomson takes a back seat at World Cup
Next month's World Cup in Fort William promises to attract the best riders in the business – both on and off the track.
And among the Scots, the likes of Ruaridh Cunningham, the 2007 World Championship junior downhill gold medallist and his compatriots Chris Hutchens (Oban), Ben Cathro (Benderloch) and Jo Barnes (Fort William) will all be gunning for gold.
However, having hung up his saddle at the end of 2006, Stuart Thomson, the former World Cup rider from Stirling will be focusing solely on the action from behind the camera.
Having swapped his downhill pedals for the editing suite, the director of MTBcut.tv will be covering all of the action at this year's World Cup between 6th-8th June.
And the former world number 23, whom in 2002 recorded a career best 4th at a downhill World Cup in Canada points out Scotland has a wealth of riding talent with the ability to make their mark either this year or in the future.
"In addition to Ruaridh (Cunningham) who is just coming back from injury, Chris (Hutchens) was 9th at last year's World's. There's also Ben Cathro who though inconsistent is riding very well at the moment and recently got a 4th at the European's in Portugal," said Thomson.
"There's also Jo Barnes from Fort William. He was Scottish Champion last year and I'd put money on him being one of the best Scottish riders" (in Fort William), added Thomson whom says there are several "really, really good" youth (14-16 year-old) Scottish riders with the talent to impress at international level in the years to come.
