Para-cyclist Neil Fachie storms to second world gold
Scottish cyclist Neil Fachie stormed to his second gold in three days at the UCI Para-cycling World Championships in Manchester.
The partially-sighted 25-year-old and tandem pilot Barney Storey routed Spain 2-0 to add the tandem sprint title to his 1K time trial title.
Fachie enjoyed a stunning cycling debut when he smashed the one-kilometre time-trial world record in 1min 2.217sec and continued in the same form to claim double gold.
Fellow Scot Aileen McGlynn claimed the 1K time trial in 1min 9.054seconds and took bronze with Ellen Hunter in the 3K pursuit.
Quadruple Beijing gold medallist Darren Kenny claimed three world titles with victory in the one-kilometre time-trial, individual pursuit and the team sprint.
Great Britain reinforced their status as the world’s premier para-cycling nation with ten gold, three silver, one bronze and five world records.
