David Millar set to join British professional elite in Team Sky
Scottish cycling star David Millar will join Team Sky next year, according to British Cycling coach Shane Sutton.
The new team is to launch next year with the stated goal - to produce a British Tour de France winner by 2014.
The outfit will start with an initial 25-man roster but Sutton expects Millar, Bradley Wiggins, Steve Cummings and Geraint Thomas to be the first names on the team sheet.
"All these guys are going to move on to the Sky pro road team, maybe I shouldn't have said that," said Sutton.
Millar is currently riding with Wiggins for Team Garmin-Slipstream while Thomas and Cummings turn out for Team Barloworld.
The Scot has an impressive pedigree as the only British rider to have worn all of the Tour de France jerseys but had his career tarnished by a two-year drugs ban between 2004 and 2006.
Team Sky will be funded by BSkyB and is to be managed by cycling's Olympic performance director Dave Brailsford and, while having a British core of riders and management, will also include international cyclists.
