Lochaber to host new downhill endurance race
The world of academia and extreme mountain biking endurance are set to collide this autumn following the news that Lochaber College in Fort William is to be the headline sponsor of a unique event staged on the World Cup downhill course at Nevis Range.
The Fort William Downhill Endurance race, to be staged on Sunday 7th September will require competitors to combine nerves of steel with stamina as they seek to descend the 2.82km course as many times as possible within six hours.
With a reputation for being one of the longest and toughest downhill courses on the UCI World Cup circuit, entrants can expect to be pushed to the limit.
And Dan Morgan, Head of Adventure Tourism at Lochaber College UHI expects the college's involvement with the latest race to be organized by No Fuss Events will also test the capabilities of students on its BA Adventure Tourism Management course.
He explained: "The Fort William Downhill Endurance is the perfect event for us … (offering) the College and our students an exclusive and rare opportunity to learn about major, world-class outdoor events (and) allowing them the chance to engage with industry and top athletes at a premier location from the very start of their course."
