Sir Chris and Carol Hoy drop into Buckingham Palace to collect honours
Four-time Olympic champion Sir Chris has collected his knighthood at Buckingham Palace, ten months after his record-breaking exploits at the Beijing Olympics.
The 33-year-old became the first Brit in a century to capture three gold medals at one Olympic Games by taking victory in the keirin, the team sprint and the individual sprint.
Sir Chris's mother Carol, a former nurse specialising in sleep-related illnesses, was also getting an MBE for services to healthcare.
"Being knighted is the furthest thing on your mind when you compete at something like the Olympics," said Sir Chris.
"You train for your whole life and all of your sporting career to try and win gold medals and become the best at what you do."
"If you're fortunate enough to do that an accolade like this is completely unexpected and such an amazing honour when it does come along."
