Chris Hoy in buoyant mood ahead of UCI World Cup in Manchester
Four-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has targeted his second hat-trick of victories in as many weeks at the season opening UCI World Cup in Manchester.
Hoy, in his first competitive races since breaking his hip in February, romped to victory in the keirin and the sprint before teaming up with Jamie Staff and Jason Kenny to take team sprint gold at the National Championships at the Manchester Velodrome.
The 33-year-old Scot's extended absence raised question marks as to how he would fare upon his return but Hoy erased all doubt with his dominant display over his compatriots.
And Hoy believes he can repeat his performance this weekend as the road to London 2012 begins in earnest.
"I'm looking to repeat the performances I produced at the British Championships," said Hoy.
"You just don't know what you're opponents are going to be like but it's going to take a good race to beat me.
"You have no idea how your opponents are going to go so you just go in there with the best condition you can possibly have and you try and perform at the highest level.
"I had a ten week lay-off and then basically I just had the summer to get my head down and train, which has really done me a lot of good.
"I think having that little break [has given me time to] physically recover and mentally has given me that extra bit of motivation when I got back into it.
"You often see athletes come back from injury in great form because they have that greater appreciation of the fact they're healthy and they can train. You put a little bit more into your training because of that."
