Chris Hoy secures new track record as he claims national title
Sir Chris Hoy looked back to his best as he stormed to the sprint title at the national championships in Manchester.
The four-time Olympic champion comprehensively beat fellow Scot Ross Edgar, who took silver in the keirin behind Hoy in Beijing, in the semi-final.
And the 33-year old was equally convincing against reigning champion Matt Crampton in the final.
Edgar beat Jason Kenny, who won silver at last year's Olympics, to claim bronze.
Hoy was quickest throughout qualifying and was the only rider to dip below ten seconds in the flying 200m time trial.
After missing this year's World Championships in Poland, Hoy, in his first major event since a heavy fall in Copenhagen, will look to the start of next week's World Cup with confidence.
"I'm delighted to win but I'm really pleased with the time as well," said Hoy.
"I've only ever gone quicker once before - and I've never gone faster on this track, so that's really encouraging."
