Scottish success continues at Laoshan Velodrome
Aileen McGlynn carried on where Chris Hoy left off in Beijing yesterday, as the partially sighted sprint cyclist from Glasgow sped to gold in the women’s 1km time trial at the Laoshan Velodrome.
Alongside pilot rider Ellen Hunter, McGlynn defended her Athens Paralympics crown in a time of 1:09.066 in an event that was scrapped from the Olympics roster after Hoy won the first gold of his career four years ago.
The delighted cyclist said: “I’m a proud Scot, so it’s great that I can fly the flag for Scotland just like Chris.”
She was one of several British medal winners on the track yesterday, with Darren Kenny holding onto his pursuit title and Simon Richardson, of Wales, winning the men’s 1km time trial.
