James McCallum admits it is now or never in bid to rescue his cycling career
Scottish cyclist James McCallum admits time is running out as he looks to re-launch his cycling career on the roads this summer.
The 29-year-old, who combines training with a job at Scottish Cycling, spent much of last year on the sidelines after breaking a shoulder.
McCallum, who won the British National Circuit Race Championships in 2007, switched from the Plowman Craven race team to Scottish based outfit Endura Racing in the winter.
But with the Commonwealth Bronze medallist turning 30 just three days before the Edinburgh Nocturne on April 30, McCallum believes it is now or never if he is to recreate his 2007 heroics.
"This year is an important year for me because realistically I've probably only got three or four years left to race at the top level, said McCallum.
"Having missed last year I need to make sure this one is a big one.
"This year is all about finding some consistency for me, whether it be consistently winning or consistently getting in the top ten of every race I'm in.
"I'm really hoping I can get back my British National Championship from 2007 and then get myself a spot in the Tour of Britain at the end of the summer.
?Changing teams is good because it has given me a fresh start and allowed me to get some fresh focus and I feel good about the summer ahead.?
