Creber - pro-riding demands 100% commitment
Like many talented teenage sportsmen and women, mountain bike cross-country specialist Ross Creber is all too aware of what it takes to reach the top.
"The fitness level is so high in cross-country," said the 19 year-old who placed 73rd at last weekend's World Cup in Fort William: "You have to give 100% to your sport and make a lot of sacrifices. Basically, it's your life."
30th at last month's European Championships in Germany, the Edinburgh based rider is the only Scot in the British U-23 cross-country cycling squad.
And with the World Championships in Commezzadura, Vale-di-Sole taking place next week, Creber has no plans to ease back on his tough training schedule during what is his first season as a full time professional.
"I spend like 25 hours a week on the bike but also watch the food I eat, how often I stretch, take massages etc. So it's a 24/ 7 job. It's definitely not just about what you do on the bike that makes a good rider but all the other little things put together."
Creber added: ""The top 60 guys in the world are all fit. So it's also what's in your head that gives you the extra edge, always being up for the race and hanging in there."
