Riders saddle up for Skye classic
The promotional blurb simply states the Skye Classic is 'a wee spin round the north of Skye.'
However, those who actually saddle up on Saturday (31st) may wish to remind themselves that the organisers of the race are the very same Highland based cycle and adventure sport enthusiasts who introduced the Strathpuffer24 (hour) mountain bike race to Scotland.
They also developed the gruelling - if spectacular - Bealach-na-Ba Challenge in Wester Ross, with a 2053ft road climb, Scotland's lung bursting equivalent to a mountain stage of the Tour de France.
Incorporating a 95 mile route around the northern roads of Skye, the Skye Mor and Skye Beag race promises to be equally challenging with riders facing a daunting 9931ft of total ascent before peddling back over the finishing line in Portree.
And if you survive that two-wheeled classic, on 15th June organisers www.handsonevents.co.uk are also staging the Cairngorm Classic – an event they've already billed as 'Scotland's answer to the Alpe D'Huez (alpine road climb).
Happy peddling!
