Melbourne medallist McCallum chasing more glory in Delhi
Cyclist James McCallum is convinced the British Omnium title he secured at the DHL Meadowbank Grand Prix over the weekend can inspire him to a place in the Scotland squad for next year's Commonwealth Games.
The 30-year-old recently gave up his job as a nurse to focus on earning a place on the plane to India and is hopeful his improved form will convince selectors he is worthy of a place.
McCallum admitted that Saturday's victory was not his primary goal for the season but sees the capture of a champions' jersey as another key-step towards a spot in the squad.
He said: “It's really important for me to win things like this because it gives me a bit more weight with the Commonwealth Games coming up.
“It was not an event I was really focusing on but it is still great to pick-up another jersey and show that everything is going well.
“I made one or two silly errors early on which cost me a bit of time but I recovered well and came away with what I wanted.”
