Hoy takes second national title in Manchester

Sir Chris Hoy collected his second ever British title in as many days as the Olympic gold medal winning trio romped to victory in the team sprint at the National Championships in Manchester.

Hoy teamed up with Jamie Staff and Jason Kenny to clock 43.759 seconds to take gold by more than a second from the trio of Peter Mitchell, David Daniell and Matt Crampton at the Manchester Velodrome.

The four-time Olympic champion is taking part in his first competitive event since breaking his hip in March at the Copenhagen leg of the UCI World Cup series in Copenhagen.

But having secured his first British sprint title at the age of 33 on Thursday, the flying Scot returned to the track to anchor the world record holding trio home.

And Hoy was over the moon to set a new championship record, with the opening leg of the UCI World Cup series just a week away.

"The performance was very good," said Hoy.

"That's a championship record I believe, and I think that's the same thing we did at the World Championships in 2008, so for a National Championship performance that's pretty good. We're very happy.

"I'm very pleased with my performance. I did a personal best here in the sprint yesterday, and again tonight I did my best ever second lap in the semi final and then in the final I did my second-best-ever last lap."
